I often get emails and messages asking me what YouTube tools I use for this or that. So I thought I'd compile a handy list that I can refer people too.
Some of the links below are affiliate links & I may earn a commission. However, I endorse all of the products below and would NEVER recommend anything that I don't personally use.
YouTube Software Tools
vidIQ - This is the one YouTube tool that I use every single day. This is my number one tool for keyword research, and is also useful for looking at private tags on YouTube videos. It also has a number of bulk update and efficiency tools. Full review and walkthrough coming soon.
TubeBuddy - This is an incredible YouTube tool that will save you hundreds of hours, especially if you are running large channels or multiple channels. It will allow you to bulk update features such as titles, cards and descriptions at the touch of a button. Full review and walkthrough coming soon.
Long Tail Pro - This is my secret weapon for finding out what people are searching for on Google. I use this keyword research tool for my YouTube channel (as well as this blog) because more people search Google every day than YouTube. So ranking a video in Google can be huge for your YouTube channel. Full review and walkthrough coming soon.
YouTube Video Production Tools
Cannon 700d DSLR Camera - Although not a top of the line model this DSLR is perfect for pieces to camera or vlogging on the go. It has a front facing screen so you can see yourself if self shooting, which is a god-send.
Rode VideomicPro - This on-camera mic slots seamlessly onto many camera including the Cannon 700d which I use. It mounts securely and plugs directly into the camera with no need to adjust any settings. This version requires 9v batteries for power and has on-board controls for volume and noise controls.
Manfrotto Compact Action Tripod - Manfrotto is the market leader when it comes to tripods and although this lightweight aluminium version is by no means a pro piece of kit it works wonderful for those self shooting. It folds up to a tiny size and comes with a durable travel bag.
Neewer Ring Light - This is perfect for small space or bedroom shooting where you don't have space (or just don't want) a big lighting setup. I use this for my office space shoots and attach it to an existing light stand (not tripod). I also use http://geni.us/pJRPT to attach my Cannon to the ring light.
DIY Video School - As I always say I'm a platform guy not a production expert. But i know a guy who is.
Caleb Wojcik is a professional Videographer and producer for some of the biggest names on the internet. He's also an expert in self shot video and over at DIY Video School he has a host of courses to help you from a Self Shooting Masterclass to learning how to use Adobe Premiere.
Roland R-05 Professional Audio Recorder - I record my audio separately from the picture I capture in camera. This is a studio quality audio recorder that I use when doing pieces to camera along with my lapel Mic (below). This is used and recommended by Podcasters, Videographers and Musicians alike. One of my favourite tools for YouTube.
Audio Technica ATR-3350-XLR Lavalier Microphone - This is a inexpensive lapel mic that I use along with my audio recorder while shooting pieces to camera and it produces very clear sound for the price.
Excelvan Professional Studio & Lighting Kit - This is the Green Screen that you see in my main videos. It comes with the full screen and lighting setup so is an inexpensive studio setup for those just getting started in video production. An essential YouTube tool if you're getting serious about your vlogging.
Joby Gorillapod - This is a vlogger's best friend or perfect for the videographer on the go. This is the original (accept no substitutions). Not only does it work as both a tripod and monopod (for shots on the move) it's unique design allows it to cling to almost anything - so you can always get the perfect shot.
Logitech C920 HD Pro Webcam - This web cam I use for live streams, webinars and skype calls. I also use it for capturing some of my quick pieces to cameras and tutorials
Audio-Technica ATR2100-USB/XLR Microphone - This may not be a 'studio' mic but its as close as you can get anywhere near this budget. Also plugs straight into a USB port so no extra connections needed.
Auphonix 6-Inch Pop Filter - To round off the audio production I'd suggest you add a pop filter to your setup. This will stop your P's 'Popping' and reduce the hiss on your 'S' and is basically a cheap add-on that delivers lots of extra quality.
YouTube Video Post-Production Tools
Apple MacBook Pro 13.3-inch Laptop -Once I switched from Windows to Mac I've never looked back. Built from the ground up to work seamlessly for creatives this is probably the greatest purchase I ever made and it's no exaggeration when I say I couldn't live without it.
Adobe Premier - This is now my go-to editing software for anything other than my screen recordings. It may look complicated but is actually very intuitive and has a professional suite of tools at an affordable price, especially as this is now the industry standard. Need help using it? Check out this course from DIY Video School.
Screenflow - This amazing software allows you to capture what?s happening on your screen then edit it and add in audio, images, transitions and other media. It?s extremely user friendly and requires little or no previous experience. Perfect for tutorials and walkthroughs (and those who are a little camera shy).
AKG K450 Premium Foldable Headphones -These noise cancelling headphones are much much cheaper than your average Beats by Dre but deliver just as much quality sound. They?re super comfortable too. Also amazing for commutes and plane journeys.
ConvertKit - Not collecting your audience's email address? You should be!
This is email software on steroids. It allows automation and custom audience segmentation so you can send them messages that are most relevant to them. Cannot recommend this enough.
Genesis WordPress Framework - Brought to us by the same great minds behind Rainmaker Digital, Genesis is a premium WordPress framework that gives you awesomeness and professionalism right out of the box.
Thrive Content Builder - This AMAZING WordPress plugin allows you to create beautiful web pages with drag-and-drop ease. Create landing pages, calls to action and even clickable menus in a few steps. Easy to use, professional results and much cheaper than alternatives on the market (yes LeadPages I'm talking about you).
Host Papa - Great web hosts that offer unlimited domain hosting and bandwidth for as little as $3.99 a month and a great free suite of tools to help you get started including one click WordPress installation.
